10 useful key combinations for your MacBook
Did you already know that these keyboard shortcuts exist for your Mac? By using them, you can work faster, easier, and more efficiently.
- Command + N
Open a new document or window. - Shift + Command + O
Open the Documents folder. Handy if you want to quickly search for a document in this folder. - Command + Spacebar
Show or hide the Spotlight search field. Press Command–Alt–Spacebar to perform a Spotlight search in a Finder window. - Command + Tab
Switch to the most recently used app of the open apps. - Command + H
Hide the currently open program. Other programs remain visible in the foreground. Useful when colleagues walk by while you're checking your Facebook feed. - Shift + Command + 3 or Shift + Command + 4
Take a screenshot of the entire screen (3) or a portion of the screen (4). You can find the screenshot on your desktop. - Command + Q
Quit a program. - Alt (Option) + Command + Esc
Select a program to force quit. If a program is not responding, you can close it this way. - Shift + Command + Delete
Empty the trash. - Control + Alt (Option) + Command + Power button
Close all programs and shut down the Mac. If changes to open documents have not been saved, you will be asked if you want to save them.
