All about macOS Big Sur
Apple has rolled out the latest operating system for Mac: macOS11 Big Sur! The company has fully focused on user-friendliness, speed, and clarity. In this article, we’ll tell you about the biggest changes compared to the previous macOS Catalina.
Do you remember the iconic sound of a Mac starting up? The sound you hear as soon as the white Apple logo appears is back! In macOS Big Sur, your Mac once again plays that familiar sound when it boots up.

The Control Center, as you know it from your iPhone and iPad, is coming to the Mac. The current control panel wasn’t used much and wasn’t nearly as convenient as on iOS. You can now also add handy widgets to customize your desktop, just like on your iPhone.

Redesigned interface
Apple is trying to create more consistency between Mac products and the iPhone and iPad. This has been well achieved in macOS Big Sur. The Dock now appears to ‘float,’ and the icons are designed in the same style as on iOS and iPadOS. Additionally, the menus now have a slightly different color, adding more ‘depth.’ The Mail, Photos, and Notes apps have also received a fresh new look.

Safari Update
You can personalize Safari in macOS Big Sur even more by setting your own wallpaper on the home screen. In the background, a lot has also changed—Apple claims that Safari should now be faster than Chrome. The browser also keeps track of what information websites collect about you, and you can easily view this. This way, you know exactly what each website knows about you, and you can also set websites not to track certain information. This makes it even easier to protect your privacy, which is always a plus! The new Safari update also allows you to watch YouTube and Netflix content in 4K.
macOS Big Sur is available for the following Mac devices:
- 12-inch MacBook (2015 and newer)
- MacBook Air (2013 and newer)
- MacBook Pro (2013 and newer)
- Mac mini (2014 and newer)
- iMac (2014 and newer)
- iMac Pro
- Mac Pro (2013 and newer)
In summary, the redesigned interface is the biggest change. The macOS system is becoming more similar to the iOS and iPadOS systems, making the integration even smoother. With the Safari update, you have a better overview of what websites know about you, and websites load faster.
