Battery status of our refurbished MacBooks
When purchasing a second-hand (refurbished) MacBook, at iUsed, we always test the battery on two important points. The most important is the total charging capacity. Apple gives a notification when the capacity drops below 75%, indicating that maintenance is needed soon. At iUsed, the battery must achieve a minimum charging capacity of 80% or higher. If it falls below this, we replace the battery. Additionally, we also check the number of charge cycles, as a battery can typically be charged around 1,000-1,200 times. If the battery has a high charging capacity but also a large number of charge cycles, we may decide to replace it preventively.
For proper maintenance of your MacBook’s battery, it’s important that the electrons in the battery are regularly moving. However, this does not mean that you should keep your MacBook’s adapter plugged in permanently. It is much better to use your MacBook during the day on battery power and then charge it in the evening. This way, the battery stays in good condition. If you usually use your MacBook while connected to power, it is recommended to fully discharge and recharge the battery at least once a month.
Are you planning not to use your MacBook for more than six months? In that case, it’s best to charge the battery to 50% of its full capacity and then store it. If you store a battery in a fully discharged state for an extended period, a chemical process may occur that prevents you from recharging the battery later. On the other hand, if you store a battery fully charged for a long time, it may lose capacity, reducing its usage time.
You can optimize the battery life by reducing the screen brightness to the lowest level at which you can still work comfortably. For example, if you’re watching a movie on a plane with the lights off, the screen doesn’t need to be at its highest brightness level.
Wi-Fi consumes power, even if you are not connected to a network. If you’re not using Wi-Fi, you can turn it off in the Wi-Fi Status menu in the menu bar or in the ‘Network’ preferences panel.
Disconnect peripherals and close programs you’re not using. Remove an SD card if you’re not using it at that moment.
These are a few steps to save or extend your battery and battery life to the maximum.
iUsed provides a standard 12-month warranty on all batteries.
Temperature and the battery's lifespan
If you handle your MacBook Pro or Air carefully, you can easily maximize both the usage time and the lifespan of the battery. The most important thing is to use your MacBook only within a temperature range of 10 to 35°C. The closer the temperature is to 20 to 22°C (average room temperature), the better. It is detrimental to the battery to be used in high temperatures, such as in direct sunlight. How should you charge your battery?
Fully charge your MacBook’s battery the first time you connect it to the power, and make sure that all available software updates are installed. Apple regularly releases updates that sometimes also improve battery performance. For proper maintenance of your MacBook’s battery, it’s important that the electrons in the battery are regularly moving. Energy settings on your MacBook
The ‘Energy Saver’ preferences panel contains various settings that allow you to influence the amount of power your MacBook uses. Your MacBook ‘knows’ whether it is connected to a power source or not and adjusts the operation of various components accordingly. When the battery is active, the screen dims, and other components are used as sparingly as possible. If you adjust these settings to increase performance, the battery will drain faster. You can optimize the battery life by reducing the screen brightness to the lowest level at which you can still work comfortably.
