What is the difference between an iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus?

The iPhone 7 or 7 Plus is still a great model in 2020-2021. The iPhone 7/7 Plus was first sold in Dutch (web)stores in September 2016. This means that this model is already quite old, but it is still supported by Apple with the latest software, iOS 14. You can still easily download and use apps on these smartphones. With the A10 Fusion chip in both models, you’re assured that your smartphone won’t freeze. There are a few major differences between the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. In this blog, we explain the key differences.

The dimensions of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

The iPhone 7 Plus is slightly larger than the iPhone 7. So, if you’re not a fan of a large phone, you should choose the iPhone 7. This phone is easier to hold than the iPhone 7 Plus. The specific dimensions can be found in the table below.

iPhone 7138.3 mm67.1 mm7.1 mm138 grams
iPhone 7 Plus158.2 mm77.9 mm7.3 mm188 grams

The design of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

There are actually no differences in the design of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Both phones have an aluminum casing, and only the screen is made of glass. The iPhone 7 still has the classic iPhone design. This means these smartphones still have a home button. Of course, you can unlock your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus with Touch ID (fingerprint).

Differences in the display

As can be seen from the dimensions above, the iPhone 7 Plus also has a larger display than the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch Retina HD display. The resolution of the iPhone 7’s display is 1334 x 750 pixels at 326 ppi. The iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch Retina HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 401 ppi. The iPhone 7 Plus’s display is, therefore, sharper than its sibling.

Battery life and processor speed

Both smartphones have a fast A10 processor. This allows you to stream videos, series, and movies without your phone stuttering. This also applies to mobile games like Minecraft, Fortnite, or FIFA. You can also easily switch between different apps with both phones. The iPhone 7 Plus has just a bit more RAM than the iPhone 7: 3GB vs. 2GB. With more RAM, the processor can temporarily store more information. The iPhone 7 Plus is therefore just a bit faster than the iPhone 7, but in practice, you will hardly notice it. Additionally, the iPhone 7 Plus also has a longer battery life than the iPhone 7. An iPhone 7 Plus can play videos for up to 14 hours, while an iPhone 7 can do so for up to 13 hours. Furthermore, the iPhone 7 Plus can play music for up to 60 hours, while the iPhone 7 can last up to 40 hours.

Differences in camera quality

The cameras on both smartphones are almost identical. Both have a 12-megapixel rear camera. However, the iPhone 7 Plus has two lenses: one regular lens and one telephoto lens. This allows you to take sharp photos when zooming in with the iPhone 7 Plus. Additionally, the photos also have a good depth of field. Since two lenses are used, you can clearly see the difference between objects in the foreground and the background environment. Both phones do have a 7-megapixel selfie camera.

iPhone 7 refurbished & iPhone 7 Plus refurbished

It’s clear that the iPhone 7 Plus performs slightly better than the iPhone 7. However, the iPhone 7 Plus is, of course, a bit more expensive. A refurbished iPhone 7 Plus is naturally more affordable than a new one, and the same goes for a refurbished iPhone 7. On our refurbished iPhones, you get a standard 2-year warranty. That’s one year more than the warranty you get from Apple itself!
