What products can we expect from Apple in 2022?
Apple events in 2022
In 2022, several Apple Events are scheduled. At an Apple event, the newest products or software are always revealed. The Apple event can always be followed via Apple’s YouTube channel or the website. You can also rewatch all past Apple events here. For now, the following events are scheduled (subject to change):- March 2022 (likely March 8), announcement of: iPhone SE 2022, iMac Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Air 5, Mac mini
- June 2022 (announcement of new software updates: iOS 16, iPadOS 16, MacOS 13, watchOS 9, and tvOS)
- Fall 2022 (likely two events), announcement of: iPhone 14, iPad 2022, MacBook Pro
New Apple products in 2022
In 2022, the following iPhones and iPads are expected to be announced:- iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. These will, of course, be the successors to the iPhone 13. The design of this latest iPhone is expected to be updated. There are many rumors about the notch at the front. Some claim it will disappear entirely, others say it will become smaller, or that it will take on a pill shape. We’ll have to wait and see. The front will likely be all screen. The cameras on the back of the iPhone will also be less prominent. Naturally, this iPhone will feature a new chip: the A16 Bionic chip.
- iPhone SE 2022 with 5G. We are already familiar with the refurbished iPhone SE 2020. This is still a popular model among many Apple users due to its somewhat retro design. This iPhone still has a home button with Touch ID. The new device will likely also have Touch ID and will closely resemble the current model. What’s new is that the iPhone SE 2022 will support 5G and will feature a new chip, which will be the same as in the iPhone 13.
- iPad Air 5. The last iPad Air 4 was released in 2020. It’s time for a new iPad Air. The main updates for this iPad will include a better camera and 5G support. It will also feature a new A15 chip.
- iPad Pro 11 inch and the iPad Pro 12.9 inch. The new iPad Pro is expected to have a completely new design. It will likely support wireless charging and feature the new M2 chip.
- iPad 2022. Every year, Apple introduces a new iPad. This is the entry-level model, the ‘standard’ iPad.
We will likely see even more new products in 2022, as Apple has registered nine new iPads and three new iPhones in total.
New Macs in 2022
Last year, the MacBook Pro was updated with the Apple M1 chip, the Apple M1 Pro chip, and the Apple M1 Max chip. This year, the MacBook Air will also receive an update. The MacBook Air is expected to feature the new, faster M2 chip. Additionally, it will have a redesigned look, and we may see vibrant colors similar to the iMac 2021. The screen will also be upgraded with mini-LED, which is brighter and sharper than a Retina display. The newest MacBook Air will also have the same ports as the MacBook Pro 2021.Additionally, a new version of the iMac Pro is expected. The last version of this model dates back to 2017, so it’s definitely time for a new one. The new iMac Pro will resemble the current MacBook Pro. It will likely feature a M1 Pro or M1 Max chip. The display will also be mini-LED, and it will have the same ports as the MacBook Pro (USB-C, SD card reader, HDMI, etc.). The iMac Pro will return in its signature color: dark gray or Space Gray.
The Mac mini will get a complete redesign in 2022. It will have a plexiglass top and a thinner case. The Mac mini is Apple’s most affordable computer. However, the Mac mini doesn’t come with a screen, keyboard, or mouse.
In summary, we can expect the following Macs in 2022:
- MacBook Air with the M2 chip
- iMac Pro with the new M1 Pro or M1 Max chip
- Mac mini
An update for the entry-level MacBook Pro and a new Mac Pro are also expected to be announced.
Apple accessories in 2022
Rumor has it that the new AirPods Pro will be announced in 2022. The design may be updated again, possibly eliminating the stems entirely. New features will likely be added, such as health-tracking sensors like motion detectors.A new Apple Watch Series is also expected to hit the market. This will be the 8th edition of the smartwatch. The design will be slightly sleeker, and new features are expected. If the rumors are true, there will not be two, but three sizes for the Apple Watch. An extra large version is reportedly in the works.
